What's On in Pretty Beach

IN REVIEW: GLASS unwinds at Pretty Beach House, NSW, AUSTRALIA

Pretty Beach House, a magnificent rural retreat one hour’s drive north from Sydney, is one of those rare properties that live up to the claim of being a home away from home.

Tucked away in the Australian ‘bush’ within the Bouddi National Park and offering verdant tropical views, Pretty Beach House comprises just four suites that guarantee an intimate experience. Broken Bay, a picturesque, sleepy waterside village, is moments away. We are welcomed by Steve from front of house, who is as warm as the sunshine that streams through the windows of the living area, complete with cosy brown leather sofas and rustic furnishings that compliment the wooden ceilings of the main structure. Shelves are lined with books and pristine ornaments, with bespoke glass light fittings above the sandstone floors.

The open kitchen is filled with a select team of chefs preparing lunch, every meal freshly prepared to each guest’s requirements. Forget a menu, simply request your preferences prior to arrival and the highly acclaimed head chef Dean Jones (who trained at The River Café in London) conjures up culinary masterpieces every time, with produce purchased daily from trusted local suppliers and each plate paired with a wine from their extensive Australian selection.

Meal times are anytime we choose, while the hospitality is attentive yet refreshingly unobtrusive. Our secluded spacious detached villa/suite is hidden within the gardens. It becomes our softly lit sanctuary, echoing romantic vibes, with its stand-alone bath and double rainfall shower overlooking our plunge pool. It’s where we relax after our daily hikes with a couple of drinks from our complimentary mini-bar.
After a long flight from England, Pretty Beach House provides the perfect tonic for us to recover from jet lag, or for that matter, from anything.
